Apple plans to drop the separate Action Button in iPhone models that will be released in the second half of 2027, according to a Chinese insider on Weibo. The function of the Action Button will be merged with the existing Camera Control button: a short tap will open the camera app, while a long press will perform the user‑assigned Action Button action.
The Action Button first appeared on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max in 2023, replacing the long‑standing mute switch. It later became configurable and was added to iPhone 16, 17 and 18. The new Camera Control button, introduced with iPhone 16, will now handle both camera launch and the former Action Button functions.
