AT&T and AST SpaceMobile successfully demonstrated seamless handover from a ground base station to a low‑orbit satellite on October 21 near Granite Falls, Washington. A regular smartphone automatically moved from the cellular network to the satellite during an active call and data session, keeping the connection alive.
The test showed that the switch, which previously took several seconds, now occurs in milliseconds. Ericsson and Nokia supplied the network equipment and radio modules used in the trial.
